Freshwater Copepods

Posted by Scott Collins (Ontario, California, United States) on 3 February 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

The guys are about half the size of a grain of rice, and are like small clams except there is a crab-like creature inside. They feed on algae in rivers and lakes, and these were in with some of my freshwater fish. I used a 100 power microscope and a Sony Cybershot to photograph them, with oblique lighting.

The color and lighting in this is pretty awesome. I would love to see the creatures inside.

@Gary: I have another blog just dedicated to my "wet Pets", and I have some video of them swimming around.

Thanks for the link. You do some pretty incredible work. My favorite is the ricordea but it's all good.
